INTERNATIONAL VISUAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES RESEARCH AWARD WINNER
Leuven, Belgium – Eva Brumberger, PhD, Associate Professor at Arizona State University, was awarded the International Visual Literary Association’s (IVLA) Research Award at the 51st annual conference held in Leuven, Belgium this past October.
The Research Award is given only when merited to IVLA members who are actively involved in on-going outstanding research that furthers the cause of visual literacy, who have achieved a substantial record of scholarly publication, and who have significantly advanced knowledge within the field. Brumberger is a nationally recognized scholar in visual communication, visual literacy, and professional communication pedagogy. She is the author of numerous articles and studies on visual communication and professional communication pedagogy, and is co-editor of an award-winning book entitled, Designing Texts: Teaching Visual Communication, a text intended to support faculty in traditionally non-visual disciplines in their efforts to develop the visual literacy of their students.
Frank Cerreto, Ed.D., Brumberger’s nominator and Professor at Stockton University wrote “Dr. Brumberger’s scholarly record clearly demonstrates her position as a major voice in communication and in visual literacy. Based on her record, she is quite deserving of this award.”
Brumberger is only one of nine scholars to win the Research Award since 1991. Winners are selected by an awards committee comprised of IVLA members. Nominations for the 2020 awards will be announced shortly. For any questions in the meantime, contact Dr. Kazuyo Kubo, Awards Committee Chair, at kkubo@lesley.edu.
