AGUASCALIENTES, MEXICO: On November 1, 2025, The International Visual Literacy Association named Viviana Torres-Mestey, University of Palermo, Argentina, the recipient of the Deborah Pratt Curtiss Artist Scholarship. This award enables practicing artists with financial support to have an opportunity to attend the conference.

Viviana Torres-Mestey is a Puerto Rican interdisciplinary artist, photographer, journalist, and educator whose practice bridges visual literacy, design, and the arts. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Journalism from the University of Puerto Rico, an MFA in Digital Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and is completing a PhD in Design at the University of Palermo in Argentina. Her doctoral research introduces authorial photomontage as a creative and theoretical framework within contemporary image-making. Founder of Enfocarte, Inc.—a nonprofit organization devoted to art and education—Torres-Mestey’s work has been exhibited and published internationally. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to Puerto Rican theater, photography and film, underscoring her commitment to art as a catalyst for cultural reflection and transformation.

The International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) proudly announces the recipients of its 2025 Annual Awards, recognizing outstanding scholarship, creativity, and service in the advancement of visual literacy. These distinguished honorees were celebrated during the 57th Annual IVLA Conference, “The Power of Images in Sacred and Festive Practices,” hosted by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, Mexico.
