INTERNATIONAL VISUAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES DISTINGUISHED RESEARCHER AWARD

San Diego, California Andrea Kárpáti, PhD.,  was awarded the International Visual Literacy Association’s (IVLA) Distinguished Researcher Award at the 56th annual conference held in San Diego, California this October. 

This award is given to members of the Association who are actively involved in on-going, outstanding, and established research in visual literacy that furthers the cause of the field, who have achieved a substantial record of scholarly publication, and who have significantly advanced knowledge within the field. Andrea Kárpáti is Head of the Visual Culture Research Group that successfully completed seven international projects on the development and assessment of visuospatial skills, media literacy of children and youth and visual communication of youth subcultures. In addition, she has served on nine other International Research Projects as a participant (1), member (1), work package leader (2), and national coordinator (5). She was Vice President of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) and Chairperson of the European Network of Visual Literacy (ENViL, 2021-2022).

Andrea’s current research focus is the study of traditional and digital visual expression of children and youth, visual communication of youth subcultures, assessment of visuospatial skills and abilities, and the use of Information and Communication Technologies in art and design education and assessment.
