INTERNATIONAL VISUAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES EMERGING RESEARCHER AWARD

San Diego, California Catalina Huilcapi Collantes, researcher, professor, and UI designer,  was awarded the International Visual Literacy Association’s (IVLA) Emerging Researcher Award at the 56th annual conference held in San Diego, California this October. 

This award is given to members of the Association who are actively involved in research in visual literacy that furthers the cause of the field, who are building a record of scholarly publication, and who are working toward advancing knowledge within the field. Huilcapi-Collantes is a member of SOStenibles research group born in UNESCO/ICDE Open Educational Movement for Latin America. Her Ph.D. Education in the Knowledge Society is from the University of Salamanca, where she studied from 2016-2021. She also serves as an Assistant editor of the IVLA Book of Selected Readings. Catalina is actively involved in research in visual literacy that furthers the cause of the field, building a record of scholarly publication. She is very prolific, publishing her research in conference proceedings, peer reviewed journals, and as book chapters. Her research focuses on visual literacy, mobile learning, blended learning, quality evaluation of mobile educational apps, information literacy / digital competence for teachers, and Education for sustainable living. Most of her publications relate to teaching in-service teachers visual literacy through blended learning courses and an app that she developed. She has also published important research on rubrics to evaluate educational resources produced by teachers after visual literacy training.
